ASC Chain of Custody Certified

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) is an independent, international non-profit organisation that manages the world’s leading certification and labelling programme for responsible aquaculture. St. James Smokehouse complies with the ASC Standard: MSC Chain of Custody Standard - Default V5.0.


BRCGS Certified

St. James Smokehouse's Miami smoked plant has a grade “AA” accreditation from the British Retail Consortium’s Global Standard for Food Safety (BRCGS).


GlobalG.A.P. Chain Of Custody Standard

GLOBALG.A.P. is the world’s leading farm assurance program, translating consumer requirements into Good Agricultural Practice. St. James Smokehouse complies with the GlobalG.A.P. Chain of Custody (CoC) for Aquaculture version 5.0 December 2014.


Halal Certified

St. James Smokehouse produces a line of Halal Certified products. We have engaged the services of Halal Certification Europe to provide a third party Halal certification. Halal, when applied to food, is a set of dietary guidelines for Muslims living an Islamic lifestyle.


Kosher Certified

St. James Smokehouse has an extensive range of Kosher Certified products. We have aligned ourselves with the Kashrut Division of London Beth Din (KLBD). KLBD Kosher Certification is one of the world's leading kosher certification agencies operating in 50 countries across 6 continents and certifying many of the multinational food processors and material manufacturers alike.


Protected Geographical Indication

The Scottish Atlantic salmon we select for all of our smoked Scottish salmon has been granted Protected Geographical Status under European Union law. This Protected Geographical Indication identifies products whose quality or reputation is linked to the place or region where it is produced, processed or prepared.


Sustainability & Animal Welfare

RSPCA Assured, previously Freedom Food, is the RSPCA’s ethical food label dedicated to farm animal welfare. St. James Smokehouse has been certified as a Processor/Packer subject to and in accordance with the current Regulations of the welfare scheme and the RSPCA welfare standards. That means the farmed Atlantic Salmon used in our products produced in Scotland has been raised and handled following RSPCA guidelines that ensure the health and welfare of the fish.


Organic Certification

The Soil Association is a UK based organization that developed the world’s first organic certification system back in 1967 – standards which have since widened to encompass aquaculture along with other food production processes. They certify 70% of organic food in the UK and their standards, which are laid down in European law, are some of the highest in the world. St. James Smokehouse’s production facilities in Scotland have met these standards and are Soil Association certified organic producers. St. James Smokehouse has been inspected and satisfies th requirements of the Canadian Organic Regime.



Label Rouge is widely considered one of the most prestigious food standard labels within the Scottish salmon industry. It is a sign of quality assurance and is the quality mark used by the French Government to endorse food or farmed products which have been recognized for their superior quality, particularly with regard to taste. Our Label Rouge certified Salmon wears the Label Rouge gill tag with pride and honor. Salmon carrying the Label Rouge qualifier is known to trade and consumers as an extremely high-quality product. This provides a clear differentiation to competitors and demonstrates dedication to heightened food standards.
